Microsoft’s Basic Authentication revised end date

Microsoft’s Basic Authentication revised end date Since 2019, Microsoft have been planning the phase out of Basic Authentication for Exchange Online protocols. Due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, this plan was delayed in 2020 and then altered during 2021 to allow more time for those affected to migrate.

Microsoft have now confirmed that they will be permanently disabling Basic Authentication in all tenants (except SMTP Auth) effective 1 October 2022 and moving solely to Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

Improved security of your data will be the major benefit of moving from this outdated industry standard, reducing any potential attacker’s likelihood of intrusion and subsequent data compromise, theft and locking.

Our development team ensured that this key change was addressed in software updates by Sybiz released in 2020. Sybiz users will only be affected by this if they are on a version older than 20.11 for Sybiz Vision or 20.10 for Sybiz Visipay and are using Microsoft Office 365 as their email type.

If you are using an older version of Sybiz solutions, we recommend getting in touch with your Authorised Business Partner to discuss your upgrade as soon as possible.

If you are unsure which email protocol you are using for your Sybiz solutions, you can check this simply by following these instructions. For further information, please speak to your Sybiz Business Partner.
