Sybiz database and server compatibility

Minimum supported versions and compatibility for Sybiz solutions

Sybiz products utilise Microsoft SQL Server databases. From time to time Sybiz will revise its minimum database version requirements and some tips are now shown in the status bar of Sybiz Vision and Sybiz Visipay versions 22 and above.

“Database compatibility level X is below the minimum version Y”
“Database compatibility level X is below the server version Y”

The compatibility level of a Microsoft SQL database tells the server to run the database as if it were on a version of Microsoft SQL corresponding to the compatibility level.

When Sybiz increases the minimum supported version of Microsoft SQL Server it is possible for a supported version of Microsoft SQL Server to be used but a database set to a compatibility level lower than the corresponding level of the minimum supported version.

Generally the compatibility should be set to the maximum supported value of the version of Microsoft SQL Server in use. Occasionally there are exceptions, such as requirements of third party products utilising the database and Sybiz recommends consulting your Sybiz Business Partner and IT Support to assist in changing the compatibility level.

“SQL Server upgrade required prior to installing Sybiz Vision/Visipay (version) Z”

This message gives advanced warning that the minimum support version of Microsoft SQL Server is changing and that an upgrade to Microsoft SQL Server is required prior to upgrading your Sybiz Vision/Visipay to the specified versions.
Technical note: Sybiz is checking the compatibility level of the Master database which may be understated relative to the version of Microsoft SQL in use. As such, the warning may still present and the compatibility level of the Master database will need to be increased.

“SQL Express does not meet your needs Database size: nGB”

The message will not be seen if any of the above apply. Microsoft SQL Express is not recommended by Sybiz as it has limitations that impact performance and database size. When the size of your database approaches the limit of Microsoft SQL Express this message will show and Sybiz recommends that you upgrade to a commercial version of Microsoft SQL Server in conjunction with your Sybiz Business Partner and IT Support.
